Sticking it to Cancer Hockey Game
Sticking it to Cancer Hockey Game
December 10th, 2024
Every so often, an event comes along that reminds us of the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit. This year, I’m honored to share that we are the presenting sponsor for the Sticking it to Cancer Charity College Hockey Game with the men’s teams from SUNY Oswego and SUNY Cortland playing right in Skaneateles.
This event benefits Griffin’s Guardians, a lifeline for families navigating the unthinkable: pediatric cancer. Focused on supporting children receiving treatment at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, Griffin’s Guardians provides critical resources to families in need across 17 counties in Central New York. Their mission is one of hope, care, and unwavering support.
Hockey has always been a part of my life. Growing up playing the sport and attending SUNY Oswego, I learned firsthand the values of teamwork, perseverance, and community. This game brings together these values in a way that’s bigger than the sport itself.
On the ice, young players from SUNY Cortland and SUNY Oswego will compete – a nod to the incredible talent and dedication fostered here in Central New York. Off the ice, they’ll be making an even greater impact, helping raise awareness and funds to benefit Griffin’s Guardians in their work. It’s an opportunity for players and spectators alike to come together for something much larger than ourselves.
This partnership resonates with me on many levels. Supporting pediatric cancer research and care has been close to our hearts, and it’s an honor to play a small part in ensuring that no family walks this journey alone. Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, in particular, has long been a cornerstone of care and hope in our community, and supporting their work through Griffin’s Guardians feels like the least we can do.
Events like Sticking it to Cancer are a reminder of what’s possible when a community rallies together. It’s a chance to cheer on young athletes as they play for a cause that touches all of our lives. Most importantly, it’s an opportunity to support the children and families who need it most.
To Griffin’s Guardians, the hockey teams, and everyone attending the event – thank you for being part of this mission. Your energy, generosity, and compassion are the reasons this community shines so brightly.
Let’s lace up, show up, and make a difference together. For the kids, for the families, and for the hope that tomorrow brings.
