Summer Slam 2025: When Community Took Center Court

July 9th, 2025

Last night inside the barn, something special happened.

The place was buzzing, not just with music, laughter, and the echo of basketballs bouncing on hardwood, but with the kind of energy you only feel when people come together for something bigger than themselves. That’s what this night was always meant to be about: community.

When Suzie and I first sat down with our team to dream up Summer Slam, one word kept showing up: community. How could we show Syracuse how deeply this Men’s Basketball team values its people? How could we build a moment that felt less like an event and more like a family reunion?

And that’s exactly what it became.

Fans, families, business leaders, coaches, legends, and the future stars of Syracuse basketball all under one roof, reinforcing a bond that has spanned decades. This isn’t just about the wins or the stats. It’s about what it means to belong to something. Syracuse basketball has always been a thread woven into the fabric of this city. And nights like this remind us why that matters.

We had the honor of welcoming a Make-A-Wish family into the heart of the celebration. And together, we got to share the news that a young man’s wish has been granted – he’ll be meeting Shaquille O’Neal in Las Vegas. That moment was emotional. Humbling. A reminder that hope still has a place in this world, and we each have the power to deliver it.

The future of Syracuse basketball was on full display, with standout freshmen like Sadiq White boldly declaring, “We’re gonna come and we’re gonna win games.” That belief is contagious. But what stood out even more was how this team showed up not just for themselves, but for the people who’ve always had their backs.

We were honored to be joined by legends like Spud Webb, Dee Brown, and Coach Jim Boeheim, lending their spirit and presence to an unforgettable dunk and three-point contest. From the food to the fireworks, from the open conversations to the open hearts — it all came together because of you. Because this community still believes in showing up.

All proceeds went to causes that speak directly to our hearts:
• Supporting the players through NIL
• Investing in adolescent mental health in Upstate
• Funding programs at the Boys & Girls Club
• Fueling growth through the South Side Community Growth Foundation

These are more than just line items. These are lives being impacted because a community decided to come together.

To our sponsors, partners, and everyone who gave their time, talents, and resources: thank you. Your leadership and generosity fuel moments like this. A special thank you to Syracuse University and Jeff Rubin for their support in making this night possible.

We’re back. And we’re building something that reaches far beyond the court.
