The Lobdell Family had the privilege of hosting an evening dedicated to a program that has long been at the heart of our community – the Syracuse Men’s Basketball Team. Set in the comfort of Attilio’s, this night was about more than basketball; it was about bringing together a passionate community, rekindling old memories, and continuing the Orange Legacy.
With Coach Adrian “Red” Autry at the helm, the Syracuse basketball legacy enters a new chapter, one that honors the past while eagerly embracing what lies ahead. Red, a seasoned player and coach with deep ties to this program, is a leader whose commitment to our beloved Orange is unwavering. He reminded us all of the enduring spirit of Syracuse basketball—the resilience, the unity, and the drive that have fueled this team’s success for decades. In his words, this season is as much about building the future as it is about honoring all that has come before.
To make the night even more meaningful, we had a surprise guest who truly exemplifies the Syracuse legacy: Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo, an unforgettable part of SU’s storied past, shared heartfelt reflections on how his time with Syracuse shaped him – not just as a player but as a person. His presence was a powerful reminder of how this program has launched the dreams of so many athletes, giving them the discipline, heart, and vision to succeed on and off the court. Carmelo spoke of the values instilled in him here – the loyalty, the determination, and the unbreakable bond he still feels with his Orange family. It was a full-circle moment that underscored how lasting this legacy truly is.
Throughout the evening, current players took the stage to share their own aspirations for the season and express what it means to wear that Orange jersey. Listening to these young men who are filled with talent, drive, and pride was a testament to how Syracuse basketball has become so much more than a game. This team is fiercely committed to honoring the giants on whose shoulders they stand, and they are ready to carry forward the legacy, adding their own chapters to it.
For our family, this event held special significance, as our son, Noah, is now part of this team. Watching him and his teammates step into their roles with such enthusiasm and respect for the game has been deeply moving. There’s a unique pride in seeing the next generation rise to uphold the values and legacy of Syracuse basketball.
Thank you to everyone who attended, who shared in this special night, and who continues to support Syracuse basketball. Your presence is more than just support; it’s a signal that this program’s legacy will endure for generations to come. Together, as a community, we are fueling these young men to create their own legacies, lifting the Orange to new heights.
